Sound as Medicine: Dr. Richard Gold on Ancient Wisdom, 40 Hz, and the Future of Healing
Sound as Medicine: Dr. Richard Gold on Ancient Wisdom, 40 Hz, and the Future of Healing
From Six Healing Sounds to Meta Mindfulness Music—how a life in Chinese medicine met neuroscience and beauty
Dr. Richard Gold traces his path from early studies in Chinese philosophy to becoming a pioneering acupuncturist and educator, weaving yoga, meditation, and decades of clinical practice into his understanding of healing. He explains the Six Healing Sounds—rooted in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic—where each element carries a tone, key, and sound that can be voiced and gently paired with Qigong movement. Serendipities guide his journey: profound encounters with Thai massage as a spiritual art, years teaching at Esalen, and a chance meeting with composer Yuval Ron that birthed Meta Mindfulness Music. Together they created Ancient Wisdom, Modern Sounds for Health and Healing, composing element-based pieces (including the “triple warmer”) with layered affirmations and the actual healing sounds, performed by world-class acoustic musicians and delivered in WAV quality to preserve the subtle energy often lost in MP3s.
Gold then shares their expansion into neuroscience with beautified 40 Hz gamma entrainment—embedding barely audible 40 Hz tuning beneath diverse musical genres (piano, global jazz, choral works) to support cognition and coherence, inspired by emerging research on 40 Hz stimulation and brain health. He highlights real-world uses—from hospital playlists and a cancer-recovery acupressure app to a multilingual children’s series (Kid Sanctuary)—and underscores heart-mind coherence, rest, and community as true regulators of stress. Looking ahead, he echoes Tesla’s insight that vibration is the medicine of the future: sound, intention, and compassionate community can help us “quantum jump” into a more harmonious human story.

Its purpose is to not only provide a delightful musical experience but also to enhance health, facilitate the smooth flow of bio-energy through body and mind, relieve stress, and contribute to a general sense of well-being and relaxation.
World-renowned, award-winning composer Yuval Ron has utilized the ancient Chinese tonal assignments of the Five Elements in the creation of this beautiful composition. In addition, this composition is informed by the most currently accepted theories in neuroscience on the effects of sound vibrations on the brain and consciousness. This music also incorporates musical therapy research and practice relating to the impact of musical modes on the brain and the sense of well-being.
Included in each track are two vital additional healing elements. You will hear Dr. Richard Gold chanting the specific healing sounds for each element. These healing sounds come from the ancient Chinese Qi Gong practice and are designed to facilitate healthy vibrations and energy flows of the internal organs.
